Our Story

Built on one family's life work

Punarjjany was founded in 2004 by the late Dr. Johns K. Mangalam, PhD, as a medication-free, holistic sanctuary for recovery — built on the belief that healing addiction takes more than treatment. It takes dignity, patience, and time.

Over two decades, that approach has helped more than 20,000 families through the difficult, hopeful work of recovery — rooted in Kerala's Ayurvedic tradition alongside structured counselling and community care.

In memory of our founder, Dr. Johns K. Mangalam, whose life's work shaped the compassionate, community-first approach that continues to guide Punarjjany today. His recorded classes remain part of every resident's journey.

Our Approach

What makes recovery here different

A few things families tell us they notice first.

1

Medication-free care

No heavy sedatives or restrictive confinement. We focus on dignity, self-reflection, and steady daily structure.

2

Family included, not separated

Family members can stay on campus and take part in counselling — because recovery is rarely a solo journey.

3

Rooted in Ayurveda

Traditional therapies such as Dhara and herbal treatments support the body's natural detoxification and calm.

4

A real community

Residents live, eat, and heal together in a supportive environment designed around belonging, not isolation.

5

Founder's guidance

Recorded classes by our late founder, Dr. Johns K. Mangalam, offer continued emotional and practical wisdom.

6

Support that continues

Our relationship with residents and families doesn't end after 21 days — we stay reachable for follow-up.

Have Questions?

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before reaching out.

How long is the typical treatment program at Punarjjany?

Our core residential programme runs 21 days. Many families also stay connected with us for follow-up support after residents return home.

What role does Ayurveda play in the recovery process?

Ayurvedic therapies, including Dhara and herbal treatments, are used alongside counselling to support the body's natural detoxification and promote calm. They're one part of a broader, medication-free programme, not a replacement for psychological care.

Are family members involved during the treatment duration?

Yes. Family involvement is central to our approach. Family members are welcome to stay on campus and take part in counselling sessions designed to rebuild communication and trust.

Will my privacy and confidentiality be protected?

Yes. Every conversation, admission, and stay at Punarjjany is treated as strictly confidential. We understand how difficult it can be to reach out, and we take that trust seriously.

Are there restrictive, hospital-like rules during the stay?

No. We intentionally avoid a clinical, restrictive environment. Our approach centres on dignity, structure, and community rather than confinement or heavy medication.
